In keeping with the spirit of the Holy Month of Ramadan, The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi recently hosted Iftar for autistic children and their families, in conjunction with The Emirates Autism Center in Abu Dhabi, a private centre specialised in the field of autism.
The Emirates Autism Center was established in March 2007 in Abu Dhabi through the efforts of parents of autistic children seeing that the current absorptive capacity of specialised centres was no longer able to meet the increasing number of autistic children.
Autism prevalence rate is one every 88 births. The centre presently has 50 students; 50 per cent of which are UAE nationals and 26 of which are integrated in ordinary public and private schools from Kg1 up to Grade 12.
