Lifestyle boutique hotel, Andaz Dubai The Palm, has partnered with Dubai-based Green Container Advanced Farming (GCAF) to introduce their very own organic container farm right on the terrace of their Palm Jumeirah location.
The hotel’s ongoing commitment to sustainability has been a focus since its 2019 opening, with multiple initiatives to reduce single use plastic and use of environmentally friendly products. Through the new partnership with GCAF, a member of the AlSerkal Group, Andaz Dubai The Palm will take a step further to the property’s green approach by harvesting their very own hydroponic produce onsite, to be utilised in the preparation of dishes at the hotel’s multiple dining establishments.
This method of farming not only reduces the amount of water needed to grow by up to 90 per cent, compared to traditional soil farming, but also reduces the carbon footprint created by distribution modes of transportation, whether by air or land, and reduces food waste by harvesting only according to daily requirements.
On the development, general manager, Andaz Dubai The Palm, Kifah Bin Hussein said: “At Andaz, we strive to be more sustainable in everything that we do, using resources responsibly to help address today’s most pressing environmental issues. With this partnership, our goal is to bring the freshest and finest ingredients from their natural environment straight to our guests’ tables.”
He continued: “We have a dedicated grower who visits the farm daily. They work within sterile conditions and get to know every single crop within the unit. Once the crop is ready to consume, it is delivered straight to our kitchens where our dedicated chefs prepare it ready to be served to our guests. It really takes the farm to table concept to the next level.”
Andaz Dubai The Palm’s new container farm is 37.16m2 in size and completely pesticide and herbicide free, which ranks it beyond organic. Guests visiting Andaz’s dining venues, including neighborhood eatery, The Locale, and popular Japanese eatery, Hanami, will be able to enjoy culinary creations made with the freshest and most nutritious produce sourced daily from the hotel’s very own farm.
