The Sharjah Light Festival (SLF) 2018, organised by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), successfully kicked off on February 7 at the Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qassimi Centre.
Now in its eighth year, the annual event sheds light on Sharjah’s unique identity and works as a guiding light for intellectual, cultural and scientific inspiration.
During the opening, Sharjah University City was treated to an incredible display, supported by the very latest technology and music.
The Festival is an invitation to promote intercultural dialogue. It hosts international artists from around the world, and during this year’s edition, 24 artists from 10 countries will host beautiful displays under the direction of the French director, Mathieu Felix.
Chairman of the SCTDA, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa commented on the occasion: “Over the past seven years, the emirate has managed to organise the Sharjah Light Festival on a worldwide level, and it is comparable to other festivals hosted by major world capitals for decades. Last year, the festival attracted more than 700,000 people and it was followed by more than two million people around the world through social media.”
The Sharjah Light Festival will run until February 17, 2018, an well be held in 18 locations inside and outside Sharjah, including Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi Center for Gulf Studies; Sharjah University City Campus Avenue; University City Hall; Police Academy; Khalid Lagoon; Sheikh Rashid bin Ahmed Al Qassimi Mosque in Dibba Al Hasn; Planning and Survey Department in Khorfakkan; Khorfakkan Municipality; Kalba City Municipality Council; the Directorate of Human Resources in Kalba; and the Municipality Building of Al Hamriyah Town for the first time.
Daily performances will take place from 18:00 until 23:00 on weekdays and from 18:00 until midnight on weekends.
