The Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has kicked off the Awafi Heritage Festival, which celebrates the northern emirate’s ethnic and cultural heritage.
Running until March 15, 2019, the annual festival is held at Al Qawasim Corniche and is open to the public Monday-Saturday from 16:00-22:00. On Thursdays and Fridays, the festival will close at midnight.
The opening ceremony was attended by CEO, RAKTDA, Haitham Mattar, as well as other VIPs, who toured the cultural village and witnessed live musical performances performed by Ras Al Khaimah Police Music Band and Dibba military band.
Awafi Heritage Festival features a traditional market place that includes arts and crafts, cultural displays, children’s activities and live entertainment, enabling visitors to immerse themselves in Ras Al Khaimah’s local culture and experience it first-hand.
Mattar stated: “I encourage both residents and tourists to visit the Awafi Heritage Festival, which is free to enter and experience Ras Al Khaimah’s rich culture and heritage through traditional entertainment shows, Emirati food, musical performances, competitions and traditional arts and crafts. It is a great opportunity for families and friends to explore the Emirate’s defining characteristics and all what it has to offer.”
