Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and chairman, Gulf Air Group Holding, HE Eng. Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed recently inked a 10-year agreement with SSP, a global operator of F&B concessions in travel locations, to invest in and operate 17 outlets at Bahrain International Airport’s (BIA) new passenger terminal building.
Mohammed commented on the news: “This [agreement] reflects the long-standing tradition of hospitality that the Kingdom of Bahrain is known for and will help us to achieve a sustainable competitive advantage, enhancing BIA’s leading reputation in the region. Having the right tenants and service providers in place is essential to meet the objectives of the Airport Modernisation Programme and the needs of passengers travelling through BIA.”
He further noted: “The new passenger terminal building’s well-considered mix of F&B outlets, which are spread across 3,150m2 in the departures areas, will play an important role in transforming BIA into a commercial hub and a driver of growth for the national economy, in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. With several leading global brands making their regional debut, BIA will become a leading dining destination.”
As well as quick-service favourites and local brands, SSP Group will introduce new names to Bahrain, including the very first TGI Fridays outlet in a GCC airport and the Middle East’s first Jamie’s Deli and Pizzeria by celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver.
SSP Group will also open Lumee, a well-known Bahraini concept; Illy Caffe, which is known for its delicious coffee; Millie’s Cookies from the UK; Ya Salam, a local favourite; Levito, an Italian concept; Burger King; KFC; Jaipur Café, an Indian concept; Upper Crust; Camden Food Co; and Ritazza, an Italian coffee shop concept.
