Nakheel and RIU Hotels & Resorts (RIU) have officially begun the development of a $245 million, 800-room joint venture resort and waterpark, located at Dubai’s Deira Islands.
The project is set to be Dubai’s inaugural all-inclusive, four-star concept and RIU’s debut property in the GCC.
Nakheel and RIU inked their joint venture agreement in Palma, Mallorca, in February this year, and a construction tender is expected to be released by the end of 2016, with an anticipated completion date in Q3 of 2019.
Set on a 315,870m2 plot of land at Deira Islands, the resort will comprise of four swimming pools, a kids’ club, a spa and fitness centre as well as dining facilities, including an all-day restaurant, a speciality restaurant, four beach eateries and an evening dining area with a stage for live shows and entertainment.
The project will also boast a waterpark, which will occupy 10 per cent of the overall area.
Infrastructure and coastal works are well under way at Deira Islands, which will add 40 km, including 21km of beachfront, to Dubai’s coastline.
Adding to this project, Nakheel is also developing Deira Mall and Deira Islands Night Souk, among other new attractions at the waterfront development.
