Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) has revealed encouraging statistics from the official results of arrivals to Cyprus for both March 2016 and the winter period of November 2015 – March 2016.
Based on the statistic published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus, tourist arrivals for March 2016 posted a 40.6 per cent increase and rose from 97,479 in March 2015 to 137,013 in March 2016, with impressive increases from nearly all markets, including the UK (+44 per cent), Russia (+63 per cent) and Germany (+74 per cent), amongst others.
According to CTO, this large increase is a continuation of the increases that the island saw in previous months. If this trend continues, 2016 could quite possibly become the year with the highest number of arrivals in the history of Cyprus’ tourism.
As it stands, the period of January-March 2016 recorded a rise of 32.4 per cent compared with the same period in 2015, with nearly all markets showing an increase.
The number of tourists arriving for the islands mild winter season (November-March) exceeded 438,000 and recorded an increase of 33.4 per cent compared with the same year-to-date period, which posted 328,000 arrivals.
CTO also noted that the winter arrivals for the 2015-2016 period constitutes the best performance of the last decade.
