Cyprus Airways has officially begun its first phase of operations, with its inaugural flight CY1011 to Pulkovo International Airport in St. Petersburg taking off on June 1.
Upon its return, the Airbus 319 aircraft was welcomed at Larnaca International Airport with a traditional water cannon salute.
CEO, Cyprus Airways, George Mavrocostas spoke of the momentous occasion: “Today marks a significant milestone for the local aviation sector and the country as a whole. We are extremely happy that Cyprus Airways is flying and we would like to thank travellers for their great support, as since we announced our launch, we had a very warm and moving response. From our side, we will do our best to offer our passengers relaxing and pleasant flights.”
Senior manager marketing and communications, Hermes Airports, Maria Kouroupi also said: “We welcome the launch of flights by Cyprus Airways and the first flight from Saint Petersburg. We look forward to working closely with the airline and we support all efforts for the expansion and development of the connectivity of the country.”
Over the next few months, Cyprus Airways will release a revised and extended flight schedule for the second phase of its launch, to be implemented in March 2018.
