Cyprus Hotels Association (CHA) has announced that its annual general meeting will be held on June 7, 2016 at the Hilton Hotel Cyprus in Nicosia.
In light of 2016 being CHA’s 80th anniversary, the meeting will be a celebration of this milestone.
Several esteemed speakers are expected to address the meeting including President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades; chairman, Cyprus Tourism Organization, Angelos Loizou; and president, Hellenic Chamber of Hotels, George Tsakiris. Following this there will be an address by president, CHA, Haris Loizides.
Ahead of the general meeting, CHA has published its annual report for the period of May 2015-May 2016 which it will present at the meeting.
The report contains developments of tourism traffic both internationally and within Cyprus, and the hospitality industry’s contribution to the island’s economy as well as to employment. The report also addresses the challenges that the tourism industry faces and well as CHA’s opinions and the appropriate actions the association has taken to address these.
Challenges that CHA has worked to address in the report include: that of the difficulty the Russian outbound market is facing, with the loss of their second largest airline – Transaero; the need to increase the island’s competiveness; the need to lengthen the tourist season to include winter and the shoulder months; the need to implement ‘open skies’ agreements and the liberalisation of flights to both traditional and emerging markets; amongst many other issues.
