Anticipating a considerable increase in the number of airline seats allocated on flights to Cyprus from Switzerland in 2016, the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) is calling on tourism stakeholders to jump on board to bolster the island’s tourism image.
A first for Cyprus, flights from Bern Airport are expected begin for a period of five months. The flights will be weekly to Larnaca airport (Helvetic Airways- Ο.Τ Ηotelplan).
Easyjet’s Basel-Larnaca service will continue, while Swiss carrier, Edelweiss Air will introduce a daily flight to Larnaca from March 27 to October 27, 2016.
Air Berlin and Germania will launch Zurich-Larnaca services, with two to three flights per week per carrier.
It is expected that this increase will have a positive effect on the arrivals from the Swiss market, which ranks first in terms of source markets, in relation to the expenditure per visitor.
According to current indications collected by CTO, the total number of airline seats (one way) from Switzerland to Cyprus for the 2016 summer period will present a 25 per cent increase, or around 15,500 additional airline seats, compared to the same period in 2015.
