Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) has revealed that in conjunction with Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO) and within the framework of strengthening cooperation between the two organisations, an information day was recently held.
During the information day, the possibilities for developments were presented and the importance of sports tourism for the island was discussed, as were the incentive plans that CTO operates for the encouragement of the development of sports tourism.
To this end, CSO presented the various sporting facilities which are available for the use of foreign athletes which have been placed on an electronic sports map, as well as a new on-line reservation system for the sporting facilities.
It emerged, during the information day, that the contribution of sports tourism to the local economy was more than $44 million yearly as well as the significance the sector has in relation with mitigating the problem of seasonality.
Hosted at the Filoxenia Conference Centre, the day was attended by various sporting authorities, the professional tourism associations, tourism professionals involved with sports tourism and other interested parties and media.
Chairman of the board of directors, CTO, Angelos Loizou; president, CSO, Klea Hadjistephanou-Papaellina; member of the board of directors, CSO, Demitris Leontis; and deputy director general, CTO, Annita Demitriadou all attended and spoke at the event.
