Tourist arrivals for April 2016 have reached high levels according to Cyprus’ Statistical Service, Cyprus Tourism Organization (CTO) has revealed.
The tourism authority noted that arrivals to the island reached 225,575 – a 12 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2015. According to CTO, the island’s April performance is the second highest since April 2001 when arrivals reached 237,229.
Regarding Cyprus’ key markets, there was a noticeable increase in tourist arrivals from the UK – 9.6 per cent; while Russia brought forth an increase of 53.4 per cent and various other markets saw increases of up to 46.6 per cent.
The period of January–April, 2016 witnessed a significant increase of 21.9 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2015, with virtually all key markets posting increased numbers.
Indicatively, significant increases were brought forth from the UK (21.6 per cent); Russia (54.6 per cent); Germany (19.2 per cent); and Poland (62.3 per cent).
According to CTO, from May, 2015-April, 2016, the island welcomed 2,745,000 arrivals, representing the highest performance of all time for the corresponding twelve-month period.
