Qatar’s highly regarded Katara Hospitality recently announced that the Doha Marriott Hotel will be undergoing a full renovation project.
The iconic property, which opened in 1973 as the Gulf Hotel, will undergo a complete re-imagination to modernise its facilities. The project will span all guest rooms, public areas, recreation facilities and the conference and meetings space. Adding to this, the hotel’s food and beverage portfolio will also be enhanced.
Taking charge of the renovation will be UrbaCon Trading & Contracting, working to maintain the hotel’s original design, with minor modifications aiming to enhance the functionality of the building. Its entrance road and a port coacher will be developed to be more welcoming, and a tower will be added for visual connectivity between the two towers. Other enhancements include a new family pool with a dedicated zone for children, as well as a full new external landscape design with all necessary supporting buildings.
This mammoth project represents a key milestone for the property, which was one of Doha’s very first five-star properties. It is expected to reach completion by the close of 2021 and will require the hotel to close completely. All facilities and services will be fully available until September 1, 2019.
