Etihad Airways has been named the official airline partner of the 2019 Special Olympic World Summer Game.
The airline will bring more than 7,000 athletes from 170 nations to Abu Dhabi in March of that year. The athletes, accompanied by 2,500 coaches and delegates, will compete in Abu Dhabi between March 14-21, 2019.
Chairman, Etihad Aviation Group board, HE Mohamad Mubarak Al Mazrouei signed an official Memorandum of Understanding with the chairman, higher committee, Special Olympics World Summer Games, HE Mohamad Abdulla Al Junaibi.
CEO, Etihad Airways, Peter Baumgartner enthused on the venture: “The 2019 Special Olympic World Summer Games is a remarkable opportunity to showcase our Abu Dhabi home to these phenomenal athletes as they compete on the highest stage. Everyone at Etihad Airways is immensely proud to be supporting the Special Olympics World Summer Games which will be hosted in the Middle East region for the first time.
“The partnership with the Special Olympics is a key element of Etihad Aviation Group’s extensive social activity programme which, in turn, feeds into the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030. Abu Dhabi will be the first city in the Middle East to host the Special Olympics World Summer Games, which is set to be the largest sporting and humanitarian event of 2019.
