Abu Dhabi’s Bab Al Qasr Hotel & Residences has announced York Brandes as general manager.
A German national, Brandes began his 34-year luxury hospitality career in Dubai in 1993. His career background is in F&B and he has experience and education in both restaurant and kitchen management.
His very first general manager stint was in the year 2000 with Anassa Resort in Cyprus, where he worked for six years. The next 11 years he worked in Oman as the general manager of the upscale Chedi Muscat hotel. During this time at the property, he developed a new beach restaurant and a new spa, and carried out a major renovation of the property after the cyclone ‘Gonu’.
In 2014, GHM promoted him to vice president operations based in Singapore, in charge of six hotels.
Enthusing on his new challenge, Brandes said: “I am thrilled about being back in UAE after this many years and see all the development that has happened. It is very exciting to be part of a new landmark in the capital city of Abu Dhabi and have the chance to embrace the local culture and create history with a new city icon.”
He added: “I believe with my multinational experience and knowledge, I will be able to together with my team at Bab Al Qasr Hotel & Residences create many memorable moments for our guests.”
