Speaking exclusively to Natalie Hami, regional vice president and general manager, Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi Hotel, Andrew Humphries outlines the family travel trends that the high-end property has picked up on and sheds light on its appeal to the family market as well as Abu Dhabi’s must-sees and must-dos.
TTG: What are the current family travel trends that you are aware of in the MENA region and how is Yas Viceroy Abu Dhabi Hotel capitalising on them?
We believe that families are now looking for a totally immersive experience, whether it be food, activities or culture and luckily for us, we have all three right on our door step. We also know that family travellers are normally the most active and always looking for their next day trip, activity or shopping destination.
With Ferrari World, Yas Mall and Yas Waterworld on the same island and the famous Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque 20 minutes away, we have activities and day trips all packaged up and ready to go to suit the family traveller. We have seven F&B outlets in the hotel as well as three lounges offering huge variety for our guests.
We have also recently introduced Camp Viceroy, where families staying at Yas Viceroy can do away with the rollaway bed and enjoy a one-of-a-kind ‘glamping’ experience that is sure to thrill kids. Mini travellers are be given their very own tent complete with mattress and duvet, which they can pitch up in the luxurious surroundings of the five-star hotel to enjoy after a busy day at nearby Ferrari World or Yas Waterworld.
TTG: Tell us a little about the activities and promotions that you offer families during a stay at your property?
In terms of activities, the hotel has a great selection on offer, both near and far. On Yas Island itself, guests can visit Yas Links Golf Course, Yas Waterworld, Yas Marina Circuit and Ferrari World to name a few.
They can also enjoy an all-day shopping in the second biggest mall in the UAE, Yas Mall, that’s only minutes away from our hotel. Not only that, but guests can have a memorable boat tour with Capt. Tony’s where they can see the dolphins.
The hotel can also offer Seawing tours where guests take a breath-taking seaplane excursion across Abu Dhabi with a thrilling water take-off and landing at Yas Marina, whilst they soak in panoramic views of the capital city’s iconic architecture and stunning landscape.
In Abu Dhabi itself, we have the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the emirate’s most revered and loved landmark and Al Forsan. At Al Forsan International Sports resort guests will find a wide range of sports facilities to make every day a great one, whether on the go-kart track, the ski labs, horseback riding, or even the shooting range.
We also offer family packages where families that stay at Yas Viceroy in one of the beautiful Deluxe Suites will receive up to 50 per cent discount on a connecting Deluxe Room.
TTG: Which is the best time for a family to visit your destination and why?
The weather during the winter in Dubai is just unbeatable. Between the months of November and March, the weather ranges between 20–30 degrees making it the perfect temperature for all outdoor activities.
Having said that, the summer is great too, with many families cooling off and enjoying Yas Waterworld, Yas beach, or having their hair blown back on the world’s fastest roller coaster ‘Formula Rossa’ at Ferrari World.
As a hotel, we also have offers throughout the summer, however, day trips become increasingly difficult in the hotter months.
