Gulf Air recently celebrated the official launch of flights to the Maldives.
The Bahraini carrier’s inaugural flight, which was serviced by a new Airbus A320neo aircraft, landed at Velana International Airport in Male and was warmly welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute.
In celebration of the new services, a celebratory event was held at the airport, which was attended by chief commercial officer, Gulf Air, Vincent Coste; managing director, Maldives Marketing & Public Relations Corporation, Thoyyib Mohamed; and chief executive, Maldives Civil Aviation Authority, Hussain Jaleel, as well as a number of dignitaries, local media, travel industry representatives and airport officials.
“This is a remarkable event for us to fly to the Maldives for the first time. This destination is widely popular amongst premium leisure travellers, such as honeymooners or families seeking luxurious holidays. With five weekly direct flights between Bahrain and Male, and with great connectivity through our hub, this destination promises to be a key route within our growing network,” Coste declared.
Meanwhile, acting head of operations, Maldives Airports Company, Ibrahim Hareef also noted: “It’s an honour that Gulf Air has become our newest partner and we are confident that the airline will add value to our airport and benefit the Maldives in terms of trade and tourism.”
