Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) is gearing up for the Passenger Terminal Expo 2019 (PTE), which is taking place in London from March 26-28.
One of the world’s most important airport conferences, PTE attracts over 7,000 senior airport, airline, aviation authority, government and related business executives, who unite to discuss current issues, exchange ideas and conduct business.
At this year’s event, HIA delegates will be discussing airport planning and development, asset management, customer experience and airport-airline sustainability collaboration.
Chief operating officer, HIA, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al Meer commented: “HIA has, in a few short years, become recognised as a leading international airport for its operations, facilities and passenger experience excellence. Part of what shapes our success is the willingness not only to learn from key players in the industry, but to offer our expertise and viewpoints to contribute to the success of the global airport industry. We are honoured to represent Qatar at PTE this year and look forward to working with other participants.”
On the first day of PTE, HIA’s vice president of strategy and development, Sujata Suri, will chair a panel discussion on customer service and passenger experience, which will delve into how the evolving needs of travellers affect the airport’s business development strategy, investments and passenger experiences.
On day two, Ioannis Metsovitis, who is HIA’s vice president of operations, and Alberto Fernandez Lopez, the associate director of Meinhardt Group, will jointly chair a session on ‘Airport Design, Planning & Development – Middle East & Asia’. Metsovitis will uncover HIA’s expansion plan, which is expected to almost double HIA’s current capacity.
Also taking place during this year’s PTE is the annual Skytrax World Airport Awards, for which HIA is a candidate for ‘World’s Best Airport 2019’.
Last year, Skytrax acknowledged HIA’s efforts in providing best-in-class services, presenting it with numerous awards and achievements, including the title of 5th Best Airport in the World. HIA was again recognised as the ‘Best Airport in the Middle East’ and again acquired the ‘Best Staff Service in the Middle East’. The airport was additionally recognised as the best airport due to its ability to accommodate 30-40 million passengers annually.
