IHG ups the ante on hotel development in Germany

InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) recently revealed that it will be adding five new Holiday Inn and Holiday Express hotels to its portfolio in Germany.

“The German hotel market is accelerating at pace and we are well positioned to take advantage of the appetite for branded growth,” said chief development officer Europe, IHG, Robert Shepherd.

“57 per cent of the market is unbranded, so there is a lot of opportunity for IHG to add value with our international brands,” he added.

The hotel group will be introducing three new hotels in the southwest Baden-Wuerttemberg state: the new-build Holiday Inn Express Pforzheim scheduled for late 2019; Holiday Inn Mannheim City – Hauptbahnhof, scheduled for 2018; and the new-build Holiday Inn Express Mannheim.

Meanwhile, in Bavaria IHG will be introducing the Holiday Inn Express Regensburg, which will form part of a new development, scheduled for late 2017.
Finally, in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Holiday Inn Express Oberhausen is scheduled for an early 2018 opening.

IHG currently boasts 64 hotels in Germany with 33 in the pipeline, including 53 Holiday Inn-branded hotels open with 32 in the pipeline.
