The fourth annual global Inflight Connectivity Survey published by telecommunications company, Inmarsat, recently revealed that inflight WiFi is key to forming customer loyalty and satisfaction among today’s airline passengers spanning the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) regions.
WiFi is now a vital part of every day life, and more than eight in 10 survey respondents in MEASA (85 per cent) believe that it is ‘fundamental’ to daily life. Seven in 10 MEASA passengers (70 per cent) described inflight WiFi as crucial.
According to the survey, eight in 10 (84 per cent) of travellers would be more likely to rebook with an airline if high-quality WiFi was made available. Inflight WiFi is reportedly considered the second most important factor for passengers in the MEASA region when selecting an airline, closely following airline reputation.
Moving on, the survey additionally revealed that nine in 10 passengers in the region (90 per cent) would use inflight WiFi if it were made available on their next flight, with high-value customers, parents and young passengers among those most likely to use it.
Onboard WiFi could also lead to more productive business trips, as four in five business travellers (80 per cent) in the region would use inflight WiFi to continue working during their journey. Access to WiFi is also an important driver of choice for nervous flyers in MEASA, as two thirds (66 per cent) said that they would use the technology to remain in contact with family and friends on the ground.
The Inflight Connectivity Survey also highlighted that over two thirds of passengers (69 per cent) who have had access to inflight WiFi have used it, but less than three in five passengers in the region (57 per cent) travelled on flights where inflight WiFi was offered.
Vice president MEA and APAC, Inmarsat Aviation, Ben Griffin remarked: “WiFi is essential to daily life on the ground, and airline passengers see no reason why their time on a flight should be restricted or spent any differently. From sending that important work email to entertaining children, staying online is becoming a crucial part of the inflight experience for today’s airline passengers.”
Griffin added: “The desire to stay connected in the air is especially true to passengers across the Middle East, Africa and South Asia region, as this year’s survey reveals that nine in 10 passengers in these regions want to use inflight Wi-Fi if it is available on their next flight.”
