Speaking to TTG exclusively, the general manager of one of the UK capital’s most prestigious addresses, Andrew Batchelor reveals The Landmark London’s very latest news, which includes refurbishments, milestone anniversaries and target markets for 2020, plus much more.

TTG: What is The Landmark London’s most exciting news?
In the last quarter of 2019, our five-star Grande Dame hotel received fantastic recognition, with two prestigious award wins – the ‘AA Hotel Of The Year London 2019’ and the ‘Employer Of The Year’ award in the Platinum category at The Investors In People Award 2019. Both awards showcase our exceptional guest experience and seamless service that our team works hard to deliver every day, which is something I’m so proud to be a part of.
We also celebrated our 120th anniversary by unveiling a two-and-a-half-year refurbishment of our bedrooms. We decided to refurbish the hotel rooms and some of the public areas in order to enhance the guest experience.

Staying true to the hotel’s historical roots, the fine adjustments maintain the unique identify that is key to The Landmark London brand, such as utilising an elegant colour palette, renovating old limestone floors, rejuvenating the stone and oak panelling in the main lobby and repainting the two main ballrooms in order to preserve the 1900 ornate architecture and reflect the hotel’s timelessness.

TTG: What new feeder markets is The Landmark London exploring?
We have been continuing to explore new ways to attract the Chinese market, which is important to the hotel both for leisure and business. We are currently one of the only London-based properties to accept payment methods such as WeChat Pay, in addition to receiving UnionPay, which is known for its common use in China.

As well as this, we have staff on site that can communicate in Mandarin; have tweaked our WiFi for the high cell phone usage of Chinese guests; and have included special add ons to our breakfast offering such as Dim Sum, congee, salted duck egg, youtiao and condiments.
We have created our Double Happiness Campaign that, using the lucky Chinese number, provides eight reasons to choose Marylebone between all the beautiful areas in London and eight reasons to stay at The Landmark London. This campaign is present in our WeChat account and in a printed format so our sales team can explain it to new contacts.

TTG: Which sectors of tourism will you be focusing on in 2020?
Our target sectors of tourism in 2020 will be focused primarily on both leisure and luxury, through showcasing our spacious and elegant suites, as well as the range of bespoke packages and services we offer that are tailored to these distinct markets.
