During the 2017 edition of the International Luxury Travel Market (ILTM) Cannes, Marriott International revealed plans to double its portfolio of luxury hotels through its recent merge with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
The Marriott International Luxury Brands group now comprises the St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels brands, in addition to The Ritz-Carlton, Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Bulgari Hotels & Resorts, EDITION and JW Marriott.
In the new year, the hospitality expert is scheduled to open nearly 30 luxury properties and has a total of 180 luxury hotels in its development pipeline that are due to launch in 20 new countries, including Iceland, Nepal and Cuba.
Global brand officer, Marriott International, Tina Edmundson remarked: “Spanning the world from the most iconic hotspots to the ultimate undiscovered gems, the unmatched breadth and depth of our luxury portfolio uniquely positions us to cater to the increased demand of the rapidly-expanding cadre of affluent travellers.
“With luxury travel up nearly 50 per cent over the past five years, we see a long runway for growth at the high-end and have a world-class, dedicated luxury structure in place to nurture and strengthen this coveted portfolio of eight diverse luxury brands,” she added.
Next year The Ritz-Carlton brand has four scheduled debuts, including The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi and The Ritz-Carlton, Astana, meanwhile The St. Regis brand has 21 properties in its pipeline. The brand recently launched The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort and will be marking its debut in five destinations in 2017, including Shanghai, Changsha and Cairo.
W Hotels, which recently inaugurated the W Punta de Mita and the W Las Vegas last week – its 50th hotel milestone – is continuing its development with W Goa, scheduled to open on December 12. The brand has a further 33 hotels in the pipeline, with six of these set to open next year in Tel Aviv, Panama City, Shanghai and other exciting destinations.
Moving on, EDITION most recently premiered The Sanya EDITION on Hainan Island in Southern China, which represented the brand’s first hotel in Asia. The brand will debut additional properties in Bangkok and Barcelona by the end of 2017.
The Luxury Collection is also working to rapidly expand its footprint. 2017 will see the opening of Hotel Inglaterra in Havana, Cuba, which will join the brand after an extensive renovation project. The Luxury Collection is set to debut in nine destinations next year, including California’s Napa Valley, Singapore and Panama City.
Finally, the world-respected JW Marriott brand recently opened the JW Marriott Venice and JW Marriott Los Cabos. In 2017 the brand will debut in Vietnam with the opening of JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa. Additionally, JW Marriott will open JW Marriott parq Vancouver by the end of next year.
