Master developer, Nakheel, has awarded four contracts – collectively worth more than $117 million – for Deira Islands, Dubai.
Deira Islands, a waterfront city made up of four islands, spans 15.3 square kilometres. Upon its completion, the destination will be home to retail, including Deira Mall and Deira Islands Night Souk, hospitality and residential developments.
The waterfront city will add 40km, including 21km of beach, to Dubai’s coastline and will create numerous opportunities for the development of new hotels, residences and attractions. The destination is anticipated to have a population of 250,000 and will create a total of 80,000 jobs.
The recently awarded contracts, which cover islands A and B, have been awarded for a sewage treatment plant, a district cooling plant, a substation and piling work for an 800-room RIU beachfront resort, developed in partnership with Spain’s RIU Hotels and Resorts.
So far, Nakheel has invested almost $2.04 billion in infrastructure and construction contracts for Deira Islands, with more investment coming soon.
