Following the acquisition of its IATA NDC (New Distribution Capability) Level 4 Certification, Oman Air held workshops on the subject for its Muscat and Salalah-based travel agents, in partnership with technology partner, TPConnects.
The workshops were organised to ensure that the travel agents are familiarised with Oman Air’s NDC enabled direct distribution.
NDC is the modernisation of a 40-year old data exchange standard for ticket distribution, which was developed before the Internet was invented. NDC works to replace the old system that has been around since the 1980s and is used by Global Distribution Systems.
Following the acquisition of the new NDC platform, travel agents will now have more opportunities to engage directly with Oman Air. Adding to this, their earning power will be increased, as Oman Air’s NDC direct platform opens up a number of new fare products and offers, including a larger variety of ancillary services provided by Oman Air, free of charge, for its travel agents to sell.
Senior vice president – revenue optimisation, pricing and distribution, Oman Air, Umesh Chhiber commented: “Oman Air generates significant revenue from travel agents, and this is projected to grow further. The travel agency community is evolving to adapt to new consumer’s needs, thanks to opportunities brought by modern technologies. Oman Air have heavily invested in NDC enabled Offer and Order Management and Distribution through TPConnects and is geared up to meet the needs of our travel agency community to satisfy the changing expectations of how our consumers shop, book and pay.”
The workshops, which were attended by the airline’s CEO, Abdulaziz Al Raisi and chief commercial officer, Paul Starrs, answered the queries of travel agents and featured product presentations, a live demonstration of the NDC Platform and question and answer sessions.
