Qatar Airways attends Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum

Qatar Airways recently participated in the Qatar-UK Business and Investment Forum, which took place in both London and Birmingham from March 27-28.

The event entailed a roundtable meeting with UK Prime Minister, Theresa May and honourable attendees including senior Qatar and UK political representatives such as Secretary of State for International Trade, UK, Dr. Liam Fox; Minister of Transport and Communication, Qatar, HE Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti; and Minister of Finance, Qatar, HE Ali Shareef Al Emadi.

An exclusive gala dinner was held at the forum, attended by HRH Prince Edward, the Earl of Wessex and his wife, Her Royal Highness the Countess of Wessex.

CEO, Qatar Airways, HE Bakar Al Baker delivered a speech at a panel discussion on the first day of the forum, where he elaborated on the leading role that aviation plays in the expanding business landscape relationship between the two countries. He also mentioned further expansion plans to two new UK destinations, as part of the state’s commitment to the UK economy.

Other speakers at the forum included the minister of public health, HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari and president, Qatar University, HE Dr. Hassan Al Darhem.

HE Al Baker stated: “I’m honoured that Qatar Airways has been able to participate at this important event under the guidance of our Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al Thani. We are proud of the part we play in encouraging trade between the UK and Qatar with more than 70 flights each week between the State of Qatar and destinations in the UK such as London Heathrow, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Manchester.

“In addition, London is home to the headquarters of International Airlines Group (IAG), of which we are a proud shareholder and the UK will also be the very first market to which we will fly our recently launched Qsuite this summer, bringing First to Business Class, a direct reflection of the importance we place upon the Qatar–UK relationship.”

The forum provided a significant platform for the development of trade and investment relationships between Qatar and the UK, and showcased the most prominent sectors of the UK industry, such as healthcare, cyber security, education, finance and global sports – all areas of UK expertise that support the Qatari 2030 National Vision.

HE Al Baker was also invited to speak on the importance of the UK-Qatar relationship, at the round table discussion with the UK’s Prime Minister, alongside other key representatives from the state.

Following the forum, Qatar Airways held a gala dinner at London’s Dorchester Hotel for more than 450 VIP guests, including dignitaries such as Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, State of Qatar, HE Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. The dinner celebrated the alliance between Qatar Airways and the UK, which the airline has serviced for 20 years.
