Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) successfully completed its promotional tour of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), organised by the National Council for Tourism and Antiquities, which took place from September 7-11.
Throughout the tour, which stopped off in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, SCTDA showcased its latest tourism initiatives launched as part of the Sharjah Tourism Vision 2021 – a vision which aims to attract 10 million tourists by 2021.
A number of workshops and meetings were held, which were attended by more than 75 representatives from the travel, tourism and hospitality industry in each destination.
Participating in the tour and promoting Sharjah and its ever-growing tourism portfolio were SCTDA partners: Sharjah Airport Travel Agency (SATA), Air Arabia and Grand Hotel Sharjah.
Following the initiative, SCTDA anticipates more tourist inflows to Sharjah from countries in the CIS – an important market to the emirate’s tourism sector.
During H1 of 2015, hotels in the emirate recorded 100,000 guests from the CIS nations.
