Sharjah International Airport recently welcomed Russian Airlines‘ very first flight from Saint Petersburg and Ekaterinburg in Russia.
Two weekly flights are scheduled to run between Russia and he emirate from October 2017 until March 2018, on Sundays and Thursdays.
In light of the inaugural flight, a special reception was held for crew and Russian Airline officials, which was hosted by chairman, Sharjah Airport Authority, HE Ali Salim Al Midfa; director, Sharjah Airport Authority, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Saoud Al Qassimi.
Al Midfa enthused: “This flight connection reflects Sharjah Airport’s strategically important location. Sharjah has [witnessed] increased demand from Russian tourists, especially since they have been granted UAE entry visas at all ports. Such flights contribute to establishing Sharjah as a centre for tourism, culture and business, and to attracting more visitors, both holiday makers and business people, from Russia to Sharjah.”
Al Qassimi added: “We welcome the first flight of Russian Airlines. There is no doubt that such flights will increase various options and destinations of travel through Sharjah International Airport and will provide tourists from Russia with the opportunity to discover the historic and cultural sights of Sharjah.”
