Sharjah targets fruitful Russian market

Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) is on a mission to entice more Russian visitors this year, having recorded an ever-growing number of visitors from this market in recent years.

SCTDA figures in 2018 revealed that Russian visitors ranked second on the list of overnight guests in Sharjah at 328,000. The number of guests from Russia, the Commonwealth and the Baltics region posted a 41 per cent growth last year compared to 2017, and the market share of Russian visitors went up to 23 per cent during the same period.

In order to further stimulate numbers from Russia, SCTDA and Air Arabia will host a B2B event on September 11 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Moscow. During this event, entitled ‘Sharjah – Unforgettable leisure on two coastlines!’, the two entities will shed light on Sharjah’s growing reputation as a tourism hotspot, as well as its amazing tourism offerings, while also building new relationships with key Russian tourism stakeholders.

Chairman, SCTDA, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa declared: “With the influx of Russian tourists visiting the emirate, we at SCTDA are working hard to sustain this trend. We will collaborate with our partners in the country to establish an even stronger presence and draw more international travellers to our shores.”

He added: “Expanding our presence in Russia through our partnerships with key local tourism and travel players is of extreme significance to us. As such, we are going to constantly design and develop strategic initiatives to build new strategic connections and deliver on our promise to provide the best travel experience to our visitors.”

Al Midfa explained that SCTDA’s interaction with industry leaders and key stakeholders in Russia will lead to positive outcomes and that these endeavors in Moscow will help achieve the country’s target of 10 million tourists by 2021.

Around 100 representatives from tour operators and travel agencies are expected to attend the B2B event. Attendees can look forward to a workshop, presentations by SCTDA and Air Arabia officials, and a networking event.
