Enhancing its destination portfolio further, flydubai has officially launched a new twice-weekly route to Sochi International Airport in Russia.
Flight FZ985 arrived in Sochi on June 7 and was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute and a special ceremony. The event was attended by general manager – Russia, flydubai, Alexander Katorgin, and executive director, Sochi International Airport, Sergey Filippov.
The Dubai-based carrier has been servicing Russia since 2010. Travellers can make the most of a range of options for travel to Moscow and other cities, such as Yekaterinburg.
Last year, flydubai was responsible for 43 per cent of the increase in passengers travelling between Dubai and Russia. With its newest addition, the airline now serves nine destinations in Russia and in total 21 destinations in Russia, Ukraine, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
Senior vice president, commercial operations and e-commerce, flydubai, Jeyhun Efendi declared: “Russia is an important market for us and flydubai becomes the first GCC-based airline to offer direct flights between Dubai and Sochi. Our flights to Sochi, along with the start of flights to Naples in Italy, which began on May 31, are further examples of how we continue to open up previously underserved markets. Our service and the convenience of direct flights, together with the recent changes in visa requirements, which are reciprocal for Russians and UAE Nationals, will make Sochi a popular year-round destination, and also enable easier access for travellers to Dubai.”
Emirates Airline will codeshare on flydubai’s new Dubai-Sochi route. Those booking under the codeshare will receive complimentary meals and the Emirates checked baggage allowance on flights operated by flydubai in business and economy classes.
