Yas Island Abu Dhabi’s recent survey on family travellers revealed that 84 per cent of parents said their children were the biggest influencing factor of their holiday.
The commissioned survey aimed to get into the minds of the summer experts themselves – the kids – and has presented remarkable findings.
More than 2,000 children (aged seven-14) and their parents were surveyed across six countries in the GCC, Europe and Asia. Children were asked what they most liked about summertime, what their favourite vacation activities were and who they would take on their ultimate summer holiday.
The top three activities for children were travelling somewhere new (30 per cent), waterparks (27 per cent) and theme parks (25 per cent). In addition, while 41 per cent said they simply wanted to do something exciting over the summer, one of the most popular destinations for them was somewhere by the beach (17 per cent).
Interestingly, though siblings and best friends were travel companion favourites for 37 per cent and 30 per cent respectively, more kids expressed that they preferred to go on holiday with their mothers (66 per cent) and fathers (51 per cent).
Speaking of parents, when planning summer holidays, 47 per cent said their top concern was finding a family-friendly destination and 24 per cent highlighted cost as another major concern. However, in the end, no matter how families choose to fill their summer days, this survey indicated that what really matters most to both children and their parents was spending quality time together.
Yas Island Abu Dhabi offers a plethora of entertainment and leisure experiences, aligned with the wants and needs of families. The good news for families is that Yas Island’s ‘Kids Go Free’ summer packages allow each child under the age of 12 to stay and play at the Island’s thrilling theme parks for free when accompanied by a paying adult and booking a hotel stay for one night or more.
